Luxe Moody Modern

I started this project with a set of plans from a custom home builder and took it from there! In reading the exterior elevation, from the start I envisioned something masculine, rugged, smoky. I wanted it be sexy, sultry, and slightly edgy. Mountain man; that is what I kept front of mind while making selections throughout the home.

Working with an earthy, organic color palette of deep greens, blacks, silty neutrals, and bourbon on the rocks inspired wood tones we livened it up a bit with smokey glass and brass lighting. I always envisioned this home at night– lights turned low while gazing out at the moon dancing on the lake. Therefore we placed an abundance of accent lighting– under living room cabinetry shelves, tucked in the reading nook bookshelves, step lights and sconces in the staircase, the stunner of a chandelier with hand blown tear drop glass suspended from the 22′ entry ceiling set against the backdrop of a custom designed wood wall that casts a soft glow through both floors of the home.

We trimmed the walls with dark paneling in specific areas of the home to highlight the 12′ ceilings and bring interest to areas that would have otherwise been overlooked. Throughout all of the tile selections, I aimed for warmth, texture and movement to bring the outdoors in and create the craggy tactile surfaces we were aiming for– ledger panel stacked stone kitchen backsplash,  textured slate in the foyer, organic dimensional wall tile in the powder baths.

The primary bath is where we had the most fun! Honestly, the quartzite accent wall was the initial inspiration for the whole home. I drew much of the color palette from the natural beauty it presented. The deep green in the natural stone won me over so when I found a smoky green tile to compliment it, I knew I wanted it to drench the entire opposite wall to wrap you into the space. This home was one of my favorites to design because of the strong storyline we continued to play out in every space.
